In 2012 we were approached by a family in Surat to build a house for them on a small plot in a newly developed neighbourhood in Surat. It was a unique family – a group of 3 friends who were partners in an accounting firm and also stayed together with their families. After roaming around the city – looking at new buildings and houses, it was mutually decided that the house would be built in exposed concrete – primarily due to problems of maintainence and upkeep – as well as a common aesthetic preference.
