The original plan of the house (and all other houses on the campus) contained an underground swimming pool with a gaming room in the basement. A large part of the problem with this was it’s in-accessibility as well as the constant leakage from the surrounding grounds – especially during the heavy monsoon in this region. When we were approached to revamp the house, we decided to open up the whole ground floor and lift the swimming pool so as to make it directly accessibly from the living room and the dining deck. This completely changed the way the house would be inhabited – it made it much more welcoming and accessible as well as much more livable. A revamped central wooden staircase connected all the different levels of the house much more efficiently and seamlessly.
